Fund Aims

Objective: The investment strategy of the fund is to purchase units in the M&G PP North America Equity Index Fund – the underlying fund.

Underlying fund objective :The fund aims to have similar risk-return characteristics as the FTSE North America Index. The fund gains its exposure via the M&G (ACS) BlackRock US Equity Fund and the M&G (ACS) BlackRock Canada Equity Fund. The underlying funds aim to be fully invested in the equity securities and equity related securities of companies that are constituents of the S&P 500 Index and the FTSE Canada Index respectively. Within the index-relative limits, the Investment Manager uses a structured and systematic, bottom up stock selection process to build a portfolio with similar risk-return characteristics as the index in order to meet the fund’s investment objectives. In addition to the fund’s objective, the Investment Manager aims to reflect a fundamental ESG approach by overweighting its investments in securities which score well against the Investment Manager’s ESG research framework and underweighting the securities which score less well.

Performance Objective: The funds aim to provide a total return (i.e. capital growth plus income),gross of the Ongoing Charges Figure, over any three year period.

Commentary

Performance as at Q4 2024 - The US equity market was the best performing in 2024. Stocks experienced an uptick characterized by remarkable returns following the presidential election. Major US and global indices declined towards the year-end due to uncertainty about future interest rate cuts. Information Technology was the best-performing sector, bolstered by demand for AI solutions and expectations of future growth. Financials performed well supported by strong earnings reports from financial services providers and the potential benefits of deregulation for banks under Trump's presidency. Inflation increased with year-over-year Consumer Price Index(CPI) rising to 2.9% in December. The Federal Reserve (Fed) cut interest rates by 25 basis points but signalled fewer reductions for the future. December closed positively for Canadian equities bringing year-to-date returns for the regional benchmark to 15.03%. Banks delivered the strongest performance supported by revenue growth and positive outlook. The Energy sector rebounded after a period of underperformance. UK equities declined bringing returns for the last quarter in negative territory. Financials names performed strongly buoyed by the Trump victory in the US presidential election and a favorable outlook. Health Care was the worst performing sector dragged by the price decline experienced by vaccine providers. The year-over-year inflation rate declined by 0.1% to 2.5% in December. The Bank of England cut the policy rate to 4.75%. European stocks dipped, underperforming their developed market peers. Nearly every sector experienced a decline, as the market started to price in concerns of higher tariffs from the US. Financials issuers were the only exception, as banks were rewarded by the possible benefits of deregulation under Trump’s presidency, and by the favorable outlook for the industry. Health Care and Consumer Staples were the worst performing sectors. In December Eurozone inflation rose to 2.4%, and the European Central Bank lowered its policy rate to 3.0%. The positive performance was supported by the Bank of Japan’s decision to raise interest rates to at 0.25% improving investors’ confidence in the economy. The Yen depreciated around 10% against the US Dollar. In line with other developed market peers, Financials were the best performing names in the Japanese equity market. The Japanese IT sector experienced a decline reflecting the broader market dynamics surrounding trade restrictions on the semiconductor industry, and its possible impact on Japanese suppliers. Emerging Markets equities delivered negative returns bringing year-to-date returns for the regional benchmark to 9.43%. Fears of higher tariffs from the US, a stronger dollar and geopolitical turmoil contributed to the poor performance of emerging market equities, excluding Taiwan. South Korea and India were among the worst performing equity markets. Chinese equities also declined, amid weak economic data and tariff expectations from the US. Asia-Pacific markets experienced a decline lowering the year-to-date returns of the regional benchmark to 7.45%. The Materials sector experienced the largest decline, mostly driven by BHP Group. The mining company’s share price dipped after multiple unsuccessful attempts to acquire rival company Anglo America. Information Technology was the best performing sector in the region, but returns were highly skewed by Taiwan Semiconductors Manufacturing, with the remaining names in the benchmark experiencing flat or negative returns. The fund was 0.8% behind benchmark over the quarter, due to relative underperformance across most regions, with the exception of China and India. With US equities rallying strongly over the period, returns were held back by the fundamentally weighted US ‘RAFI’ index component, which underperformed other US market cap weighted indices.

Important Information

Because of changes in exchange rates the value of your investment, as well as any money you take from it, can go down as well as up.

Some funds may invest in ‘underlying’ funds or other investment vehicles. The performance of our fund, compared to what it’s invested in won’t be exactly the same. That can be due to additional charges, cash management (needed to help people to enter and leave our fund when they want), tax and the timing of investments (this is known as a fund’s dealing cycle, it varies between managers and can be several days).

This factsheet is intended for the advisers of occupational pension schemes using Prudential group pension contracts and Prudential grouped personal pensions and Stakeholder pension contracts. its purpose is to provide an insight into how investment markets and funds have performed over the period and is provided for information only. You should refer to your client's scheme documentation (e.g. Fund Guide) for fund availability, investment strategy, any scheme information and charges. These risk ratings have been developed by Prudential to help provide an indication of a fund’s potential level of risk and reward based on the type of assets which may be held by the fund. Other companies may use different descriptions and as such these risk ratings should not be considered as generic across the fund management industry.

We regularly review our fund risk ratings, so they may change in the future. If, in our view, there is a material change in the fund's level of risk, for example due to a significant change to the assets held by the fund or in the way the fund is managed, we will provide information on the new risk rating. We recommend that you make sure you understand the risk rating of any fund before you invest.

Some funds may invest in ‘underlying’ funds or other investment vehicles. The performance of our fund, compared to what it’s invested in won’t be exactly the same.
